Iridescent, slick graphics, which children could never duplicate, illustrate the instructions. Holm's large, colorful drawings enhance the instructions, and Ross includes lists of supplies as well as decorating ideas. Most projects pertain to Easter--several kinds of Easter baskets, foil egg decorations, Easter wreaths and bonnets--but many of the ideas can be altered to reflect a more general spring focus. Easter Crafts (Paperback) K-Gr 3-Many of the projects in these sometimes simplistic and slightly ambiguous titles ask readers to copy a pattern, cut it out, and color it. The generic black-line drawings highlighted in yellow (Easter) and red (Valentine) lack grace or charm. In Easter, bunnies abound; most have rounded shapes, but one rat-faced rabbit appears. ``Oliver the Baby Dragon'' is a questionable addition. In Valentine, there are hearts galore, and also rebuses, games, and a key for writing secret codes. Both books include some easy recipes. Phyllis and Noel Fiarotta's Cups & Cans & Paper Plate Fans (1993) and Teddy Cameron Long's Fantastic Paper Holiday Decorations (1994, both Sterling) include holiday crafts that rely less on tracing and copying. -Carole B.
